This is lovely. I am surrounded by this kind of scene everyday. Where did you get the inspiration?

Linda Simon replied:

Thank You Tina for your comment! ox My inspiration is from every day scenes. When I painted Amish Road, I had taken a break for a year and a half when I had my daughter, Hillary. I wanted to find myself again, because you see ....... I was lost in a abusive marriage. The day I finished this painting, my husband left me, telling me nobody cares about the painting and about me. So my revenge was to succeed as a mother and an artist.

Description:

Ms. Simon painted "Amish Road" to ease her life at a time she was dealing with a lot of hardship. Quiet, simple, and peaceful are what come to mind upon viewing this country scene, just what the artist needed. Life for the young Amish is much different from typical american children. Chores are expected in their culture and their day starts well before the sun even hints a ray of light. Sweeping, gathering eggs, making beds and feeding the farm animals are all done before attending non-public school. Girls are taught how to cook, bake, sew, quilt, clean, raise children, and drive buggies. Amish boys are taught how to manage finances, prepare the fields, use tools, and drive a horse and buggy team. It's not all work and no play, they play many of the same games that other children do, like baseball and soccer. Games played are not to be competitive only played for fun, because the Amish do not believe in ways of pitting one against the other. This painting represents new beginnings, comfort and a everlasting treasure!
